This Easter the National Space Centre will be launching not one but three new experiences for visitors to enjoy, as well as unveiling some amazing new artefacts that chart our journey into space.
Jules Verne and H G Wells are called the fathers of science fiction, so to celebrate their contribution the National Space Centre have built an Edwardian Cinema to screen the first sci-fi movie ever made.
The rocket scientist Robert H. Goddard was inspired by the work of H G Wells. His research led German scientists to later develop the V2, which in turn led to the American Apollo program that landed man on the Moon
Visitors can also take part in the interactive Space Race quiz to discover how much they know about the epic battle for the control of space and blast off into space as they decide if they are going join the astronaut corps of the USA or USSR in the ultimate water rocket challenge.
The whole family will be invited to learn about some of the most iconic and amazing rockets ever built from the V2 to the UK’s very own Blue Streak, via the X-4 wire guided air-to-air missile and the Congreve Rocket from the Napoleonic War as the National Space Centre unveils some stunning and unique pieces, including a turbo pump from a V2 rocket.
In addition to all the above the National Space Centre will also be offering some additional workshops, shows and craft sessions:
- Design, build and launch your very own rockets (subject to availability)
- Meet real rocket scientists in our Space Now Q&A sessions (only certain dates – TBC)
- Join the Meteorite handling sessions and discover space rocks!
Add to all this the six hands-on galleries, over 150 interactives, inclusive Space Theatre show, unique 3D SIM ride and 42m high rocket tower and this is a visit that really will be out of this world.
