THE SIR PATRICK MOORE PLANETARIUM

As part of your ticket price to the National Space Centre you will be allocated a time slot in our fantastic 360 degree planetarium, be amazed by the sights and sounds of the solar system in our Planets show, or upgrade to one of our presenter led shows. All of our shows are based around curriculum topics.

Night and Day

(Recommended for years 1-4)

What are the stars? What is the Sun? Why do they look so different? Why does the Sun appear to move across the sky during the day and where does it go at night? Find out the answers to these questions and more in an animated, presenter-led, interactive show. This show includes a Tour of the Night Sky looking at some of the easy to find star patterns for the time of year and some of the mythological stories associated with them.

   Planets

(Recommended for years 5-9)

The Planets tests people's knowledge of the eight planets and one of the dwarf planets in our Solar System. The audience find themselves transported from planet to planet, immersed in spectacularly different environments. Great fun to play along and test your knowledge of the solar system, the show also has enough facts and concepts to provide real educational value.

   The Life of Stars

(Recommended for years 9-11)

The night sky may look peaceful and unchanging, but those tiny stars are the powerhouses of the universe - blazing, gargantuan fireballs with fascinating life-and-death stories full of creativity and destruction. This show guides the audience through the life of stars and fronts a presentation of BIG, a show which takes us on a journey from the Earth to the most distant objects in our Universe.
