Space Academy Teachers Conference
16 - 18 April 2011
The Space Academy Teachers Conference is an intensive three day residential event for KS3, KS4 and Post 16 Science teachers. Hosted jointly by the National Space Centre and the Science Learning Centre East Midlands, this superb CPD opportunity is eligible for subsidy through the DCSF/Science Learning Centre Impact Awards (see bottom of page for more information).
Over the course of three days, delegates participate in a large variety of curriculum-focused practical sessions delivered by Space Academy Lead Educators and Project Scientists. These will enable and inspire attendees to bring STEM activities into the classroom utilising Space Science, GPS and Earth Observation Science as contexts. Teachers also have an opportunity to attend seminars from some of the UK's leading Space Scientists. This will enable delegates to incorporate current cutting edge research and everyday Space applications into discrete curriculum links and more general themes such as 'how science works' and the use of critical thinking skills.
In addition to the above sessions, those in attendance will;
- Participate in a Challenger simulated space mission
- Watch our latest full dome Space Theatre Planetarium show with ideas on how it can be linked to curriculum studies
- Visit our Space Careers Industry Showcase to enable information on Space based career routes to be made available to students within schools as well as increase teacher awareness of the UK space industry
- Be given a large range of resources (printed, digital and virtual) to take back to the classroom allowing ideas to be implemented immediately
- Take part in a comprehensive programme of evening social events
This event is a fantastic opportunity to not only implement exciting new themes and methodology into lessons, but also to mix and share ideas over several days with a large group of pro-active, passionate teachers.
