Space Academy Careers Events bring members of the UK space industry into direct contact with KS4 and KS5 students. These events aim to raise the profile of the space sector and show the diversity of careers, both academic and vocational, available within the industry. A key objective of making students aware of the exciting and unusual space related careers paths is to encourage students to study STEM subjects at KS5 and then further into higher education.
Participating companies include a large number of space/aerospace organisations including:
RAF Fylingdales – RAF radar base which scans the skies and catalogues everything in orbit around our planet
EADS Astrium – Europe's largest satellite manufacturing company responsible for designing and building the ExoMars rover
Infoterra– Satellite and aerial remote sensing company providing accurate details about our surroundings and environment
Magna Parva – Leicester based space engineering company providing innovative engineering solutions for space missions
Rolls-Royce – a global engineering company and a world-leader in aerospace engineering, power systems and services for use on land, sea and air
Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. – a world leader in the design, manufacture and operation of high performance small satellites
These events are open to Year 10 and Year 12 cohorts at strategic times to encourage them to study STEM based subjects in KS5, and to consider STEM further education or apprenticeship options prior to UCAS application deadlines.
