Filming Policy
The National Space Centre is a charity organisation setup with the mission of communicating space and interests in science. As such, any filming carried out at the centre must be relevant to our purpose and function as a centre, and be of benefit to the wider community.
It is not our policy to allow open filming to take place that is un-related and not aligned to the interests of the National Space Centre. Therefore requests from community groups, students, amateur filmmakers or other special interest groups are likely to be declined if no wider benefit is perceived. The suitability of any filming is left at the discretion of the National Space Centre to decide.
If you are an amateur filmmaker or special interest group, it is possible to privately hire the centre at a cost. These costs will cover the overheads of opening the National Space Centre out of hours and security and technical staff to be on duty. As a not-for-profit charity the National Space Centre cannot support this activity without covering these costs.

Guideline for filming during public opening hours
In order to ensure that you get all the images, interviews etc that you require and also that our visitors get what they want, please follow these simple guidelines.
The following guidelines are for filming during public opening hours. Please note that during opening hours the centre might be busy and noisy. Although we will aim to accommodate your visit to the best of our ability, our priority is to our visitors, as such we are unable to close off areas during periods when we are open to the public.
Prior to arriving
1. All filming, interviews and photography must be arranged directly through the Press Office only and NOT with any other department of National Space Centre or external body.
2. Please arrive on time. The National Space Centre has a busy schedule of journalists' visits and filming. Because you must be accompanied by a press officer at all times and because there may be another crew arriving as you finish, time over-runs will cause problems.
3. The National Space Centre public opening hours are 10.00 - 16.00, it is possible to arrange filming outside this time but this will incur administration and staffing charges.
4. All filming is subject to negotiated terms and conditions as outlined by the Press Office, depending on relevance to the National Space Centre we reserve the right to apply an administration/staffing charge.
5. We strongly advise battery operated equipment as power sources are limited and cables etc can be a hazard.
6. Vehicles can not be brought onto site without prior notice and permission.
7. It is recommended that all equipment brought on site be kept to a minimum.
8. As an educational charity we cannot be seen to endorse commercial products, so please ensure you clear all activities through the Press Office in advance of your visit, as we will stop filming that contravenes this restriction.
9. The National Space Centre has a priority to its visitors, as such we are unable to close areas during periods when we are open to the public. Please be aware of this when making a request.
Arrival
10. When you arrive please check in at the Reception Desk in the Offices and Staff entrance area in order to collect your press pass.
11. Under no circumstances must the arranged filming/interviews be altered (either time/place or content) with the Interviewee without express approval of the Press Office.
While at the centre
As a visitor to the National Space Centre, you are expected to comply with the National Space Centre's Health and Safety Policy. This requires you to take reasonable care for both your own health and safety and that of others. If you have any concerns or queries about health and safety hazards associated with your work at the National Space Centre, please raise them with your National Space Centre press office contact.
12. The National Space Centre can be noisy especially in the children's areas. Interactive exhibits (many of which make a noise) cannot be turned off as they are on an automated system.
13. Apart from installations which are specifically designed to be handled, no objects can be held, touched or moved. However, if there are objects you are particularly interested in, we may be able to make arrangements with the curator to handle them. Please note, this takes time to organise and must be arranged through the Press Office in advance.
14. Due to time constraints the Press Office will reserve the right to stop the filming if it appears to be over-running or the crew has arrived late to the National Space Centre. This can be negotiated and will be subject to the Press Office availability.
15. Interviews with visitors may only take place with a member of the Press Office's express approval and then only with the agreement of the visitor. The filming or interviewing of children may only take place with the express permission of their parent or guardian.
