Length: 30 minutes Number of delegates: 5 to 100 (spilt into groups of 5) Mission objective: to devise the most cost effective and efficient Space Station for one of the following missions: Research, Tourism or Space Port.
Each group of 5 has the following roles:
Big Boss x1
Middle Manager x 2
Workers x 2
Groups will initially need to decide what their individual role is, this can be done by the throw of a dice or pre set by us at the National Space Centre. The ‘Space Stations’ survival pack will be handed to each group. Once the group have decided on their mission, the team will find out how many credits they have from the ‘Space Station’ survival pack – they must keep to budget!
The big boss needs the help of workers to choose which equipment and crew are needed to be sent to your chosen space station to complete this mission. (ALL RESOURCES PROVIDED). Each team needs to make sure the crew are kept fit, healthy and happy with the big bosses choices. The team can answer questions to release more funds for your budget, but beware, if you do not know the answer you could loose some of your budget.
A list of all possible items and crew is given to each team, so that they can choose the ‘appropriate’ or correct ones. The big boss has the final decision, middle managers do calculations to see if the group has enough credits to do it all and the workers decide which crew / equipment are required.
At the end of 20 / 30 minutes the big bosses from each group stands up and then on an elimination basis they sit down if they have not got the correct crew / equipment required (moderated by the judges – National Space Centre). In the event of a tie we have a selection of space related questions used for a tie break.
