The Space Academy
is happy to announce the launch of a new electromagnetic spectrum loanbox scheme
for East Midlands secondary schools. Building
on some of the activities developed as part of the Space Academy programme, this scheme will allow
teachers to access equipment and bring exciting, hands – on, curriculum focused
activities focusing on the EM spectrum into the classroom. From discussion of
waves at KS3 to different parts, wavelengths (and uses) of the EM spectrum at
KS4 to discussion of wave energy, Planck’s constant and the photoelectric effect
at KS5, this equipment will allow you to teach these topics in an engaging,
interactive manner.
The loanbox itself contains:
- An IR camera with video output
- A set of IR thermometers
- Thermochromic (heat reactive) sheets
- Spectrascopes
- Mini Slinkies
- UV diodes and Pens
- UV light
The loanbox can be loaned for a week at a time to East Midlands schools. Collection from the National Space Centre is preferable, although a courier can be arranged (at a cost to the school).
This scheme is FREE to all East Midlands secondary schools! To qualify your school will need to send a representative to the following training session:
