I love Café Scientifique! There you have it, I've outed myself and I hope you want to join me in shouting from the rooftops just how cool science really is, as well as those who follow in its wake.
Last night a merry band of followers braved the horrific elements to sit and hear the rain thunder down on the Rocket Tower, whilst Professor Derek Raine helped us navigate the factual, fascinating and sometimes funny world of sustainability.
The name doesn't really sell it as a fun night out, but we all sat and discussed/listened/questioned the future of the Earth and our part in it. Obviously I'm not the brains of this operation, but even I, a simple marketer, walked away in awe.
To round it off I hosted a little quiz, with rounds as far from science as Kevin Spacey (can you see what I did there?), Leicestershire, Aliens and Space Agency logos. I am pleased to say nobody laughed at my dreadful pronunciation of the French and German agencies.
When we first started hosting Café Scientifique it was because we felt we had an obligation to offer the group a new home, but after the first month we just hosted it because it is an amazing concept and we got so much from it (not money, it is a free event).
Please come and join us, or tell us who you would like to hear speak next time. It is a simple concept, we have a guest speaker and they come along and speak on a subject, you ask questions, debate or just listen, whatever you are comfortable with. At the end of the day you can go home having had a great night out, learnt something new and maybe even the quiz prize.
