Sensory Sessions

NSC Face Of Space 267

What are they?

Our Sensory Sessions offer an accessible way to engage with our collection through touch, sound, and smell.

A trained member of our Space Communications team will lead the experience, tailoring the pace and structure to meet individual needs.

They are 30 minutes long and may include activities such as Meteorite Handling, the Smells of Space and Mars Map Exploration.

Who are they for?

Sessions are best suited for individuals, families, and groups with:

  • Visual impairments
  • Those with additional needs who could benefit from multi-sensory engagement.
  • Those with SEN/SEND who prefer a quieter experience.

Each session can accommodate up to 10 people, including carers.

Things to Know Before You Book

  • Sessions must be booked in advance, with at least one week’s notice.

  • At present, we’re unable to deliver Sensory Sessions in British Sign Language (BSL), but we’re working towards training our team to offer this in the future.

  • Availability cannot be guaranteed. Sensory Sessions are not available during Special or Premium Event weekends, or during busy school holiday periods.

  • These sessions are designed for visitors with additional needs who would benefit from a more tailored, multi-sensory experience. They are not available as an add-on to a standard visit.

  • We strive to ensure that the widest number of people can enjoy our galleries and events. For more information about accessibility at the National Space Centre, please visit our online guide:
