When you think about a visit to the National Space Centre, you may be picturing a day out with the kids or a school group visit. And while you're absolutely right – it is a fantastic destination for families – there's so much more going on here.
In fact, we’re on a mission to prove that space is for everyone. Whether you're a stargazing romantic, a sci-fi buff, a foodie looking for your next adventure, or someone who just wants to experience something a little bit different on a night out, we’ve got something for everyone!
So if you’re looking for interesting things to do in Leicester after hours, then here are just a few reasons to come and experience the National Space Centre in a whole new light.
Space Lates
If you're curious about the cosmos but don’t have a science degree, Space Lates is for you! These evening events are curated for adults, and space-engaged children, who want to take a deep dive into the cutting edge of space science in an engaging and relaxed setting.
As our very own Space Expert, Dhara, puts it: “Space Lates events are designed for anyone, even those without a science background, who have a curiosity for space! With expert speakers and hands-on activities, it’s a chance to find out more about current space discoveries, missions and research in a quieter after-hours setting.”
Music Nights
Our award-winning Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium makes an incredible venue for immersive musical experiences.
We’ve hosted spectacular planetarium shows like:
Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon – A psychedelic celebration of Pink Floyd’s legendary album, created in-house to honour its 50th anniversary.
Queen Heaven – A cosmic tribute to one of the world’s greatest rock bands, blending their iconic music with stunning visuals.
And it doesn't stop there. We’ve even had live bands perform among our space artefacts, transforming our galleries into a one-of-a-kind venue for unforgettable nights. Keep an eye on our What's On page to hear about our next one!
Cosmic Events
Cosmic Events are a chance to experience the National Space Centre in a whole new way. From music shows where incredible 360° planetarium visuals bring the soundtrack to life, to extraordinary dining experiences set among our stunning space galleries, every event is designed to immerse and inspire. We’re always creating new ideas to make our afterhours programme truly special and we love giving our visitors something unforgettable.

Cosmic Country Night (18+)
Why not bring a little bit of the Wild West to the Milky Way?
Our newest themed night, Cosmic Country, is the perfect blend of boot-scootin’ fun and interstellar flair. With live country music, themed cocktails, and good ol’ cosmic cheer, it’s a rootin’, tootin’ evening that proves we don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we do know how to throw a great party.
